Question
My dog has had issues as an young pup with a small jack russell, and now she is 8 and still has problems. She will attack any small white short haired dog and I'm not sure how to handle it, I get mad but I know there has to be another way...a better way. She plays with other dogs great, and I don't want to have to have her on the leash all the time, but it kind of looks that way...can you help please.

Answer
Hi Melissa,

A dog can certainly be trained not to attack other dogs. However, at 8 years old and considering that you are probably not a professional trainer, I would err on the side of caution and advise you to keep your dog leashed.

As a dog owner, it is your responsibility to not allow your dog to injure or attack others. If that means keeping her leashed, then it is a small price to pay versus the possibility of harm to another dog or your dog being put down for aggression.

If you are determined to change your dog's behavior at this late stage in her life, I would strongly suggest you seek out a reputable professional trainer to give you personal instruction.

Good Luck!
Sandy
