Big housetraining problem

Question
We adopted an 11 month old golden doodle last October. She is loving and adorable but I cannot house train her.  I do everything everyone says to do.  She's fed around 5:30 once a day; she gets a walk in the a.m., an out between 5 and 5:30 again at 11-11:30, and at least once in between.  I always take her to the same place to pee/poop and praise her.  When I got her from the rescue, I was told she was "too much" for her current family and their older dogs.  She was "crate trained", although with me, she's gone in the crate several times. Also, they got her at a pet shop.At any rate, I can have her outside after work and if she doesn't poop, she'll poop in the house an hour later.  She was doing well for awhile and for several days I tried to expand her area by keeping her confined in a very large bathroom while I was at work so I could work her into getting the run of the house.  She pooped in there every day.  After 10 months, she seems to have no connection between outside and going.  I've always been able to house train dogs, although I've never done crate training.  I know it's supposed to be my fault if the dog isn't trained, but I don't know what else I can do. I've thought about starting over without the crate and doing it with paper or pads.  I'm willing to do anything to make this work, but I'm running out of ideas and I may have to get rid of her, which I'd hate to do.

Answer
If you want her to potty outside, do NOT try to teach her to go on pads. I think the problem is that you have not been consistent, and the fact that as a puppy, she learned that it was not only okay to potty in her living area, but she had no other choice, due to being the product of a disreputable breeder and living in a pet store. Since you know she is likely to potty in the crate, you need to figure out how long she is in there before she does it, and take her out just a few minutes beforehand.
