barking at EVERYONE

Question
Hi, I rescued a Yorkie, he's approx. 8 mos old, and about 5 lbs.  He barks at EVERYONE and at motorcycles, or something that makes more noise than he does.  I've tried using a spray bottle and giving him a squirt when he barks, but he just barks more at the water!  I've tried a dog whistle too without any luck.  I love this little guy and can't imagine not being able to break this terrible habit, what do you suggest?  Thank you so much!

Answer
Hello Donna,

Get a small prong collar and teach him how to walk at a heel. Walk him at a strict heel at least twice a day.

Keep the prong collar and a soft leash on him during waking hours. When he barks, tell him "Thank you, that's enough". If he continues barking,
tell him "No" and correct him firmly with a yank of the leash. Repeat until he stops barking.

Don't let his little size or cuteness fool you. In his mind he is protecting you. You must let him know that you are the leader and in charge of pack protection.

Good Luck!

Sandy
