Question
QUESTION: hi, My dog sasha (female) is a grayhound that we think may have been crossed with a whippet but anyway what i want to ask is whether it is possible to train her to run after and bring back a stick or ball. I know it's easier when dogs are puppies to do this but we got sasha at about 5 years old (dog yrs) and she is now 7. If there is a way to do this please could you give me some tips on how please.

Thanks in advance

ANSWER: Ben, she should be easy to train for this, being that she is a sighthound! Does she show any prey drive at all? In other words, will she run after something that is thrown?

QUESTION: there is no way on earth that she would run after a stick or fluffy toy (or anything for that matter) unless i tied a dead thing to it...

Answer
You could try getting her interested in a toy by putting the toy on a string and pole, and trying to play with her like you would a cat, making her miss the toy JUST as she goes to grab it, many times, before finally letting her get it. Then, when she gets it, you can praise her and see if you can get her to come to you with the toy.
