QuestionMy son moved home and brought his 60lb huskie/lab mix dog. The dog is potty trained for outside and that's never been a problem. She is caged during the day from 7:30A to 5:30P and never soils the cage. The problem: when we take her outside to to her duty, sometimes we'd like her to not take all day to do her thing. I was wondering if we could do a "reward" system like a treat for peeing and double treat for pooping. The intent is to get on with business more quickly - especially when it's raining or snowy outside. Is a treat a good method to encourage faster progress during the walks?

AnswerTry clicker training. You must click when she is completely finished (or she could learn to stop mid-stream to get her reward), and then give her a tidbit. Be sure to also add a cue, such as "pee" or "poo" and before long, you will have her going on cue when you ask.
