Question
I have an 11 week old mastiff puppy and been potty training him for a week. Next weekend, for 3 separate days I have to leave my buddy for maternity classes.  I don't want to leave him in the crate.  Would it be safe to leave him in the bathroom with a baby fence? I'll put down his bed, leave water and food for him. He never took to paper training but I can put those down for him anyway. We also could put him in the garage (confine him) and leave water, food, and his toys.  I hate to leave him and afraid all the work I've done up to this point will set me back and he'll forget what he's learned thus far. I don't have family near me that could take him out. What is the best alternative for the puppy?

Answer
You didn't mention how often the puppy goes potty. If he goes that long without potty trips, then I would try leaving him in an easy to clean area. There is also the option of doggy day care and doggy house sitters. If you do leave him alone, make sure he has chew toys and a LITTLE water. Food in = food out, and just likepeople, if we drink, we shortly have to eliminate. personally I equate it to beer and Pepsi (or Coke) it should be a rental, not a purchase.

If the puppy makes it through your absence, be sure to let him out right away and praise him for doing a good job.
