chinese crested ringworm

Question
My hairless chinese crested, Franklin, was diagnosed with ringworm a couple of weeks ago.  Is there anything we should do differently for his skin.  He is on Conofite(miconazole nitrate) and Pledgets(same + CHLORHEXIDINE. But doesn't seem to be improving.  Is there something I should do differently?  I don't think my vet has ever treated a hairless crested before.

Answer
Hi Cathy,
How bad is the ringworm?  Is it just one place, or all over?  You can kill ringworm with household bleach.  Dilute the bleach with water and use it like a flea dip.  It will not hurt your dog!  If it is just a spot or two, take a q-tip and coat the ringworm area every day with the diluted bleach.  It's a good idea to dip your dog at least once though, that way it will cover the body and hopefully kill any places that haven't broken out yet.  Make sure not to get in eyes!   I had a Cornish Rex kitten that had ringworm and I used this.  I dipped the kitten in the diluted bleach solution 2-3 times a week and it killed the ringworm and never came back.  Bleach kills!  Be sure to clean any area with the bleach solution where your dog has been.  People can get ringworm, so be sure to clean all surfaces.

God Bless,
Becky
