my german shepard is in heat

My german shepard is only 9 months old.  we have an appointment with the vet for spading.  what do we do during the interim?

Be very careful of her.  As she reaches the fertile part of her cycle in the second week, she will desperately seek to get loose.  Her efforts may be well beyond anything you would ever expect.  Once loose, getting bred is far from the worst thing that can happen.  You can buy sanitary garments for dogs.  Some people use training pants with the tail coming out the fly.  Don't bath her or let her swim until she is completely finished and the swelling goes down.  She could get infected.  It won't be an easy time, but once you have her spayed, you will never have to go through it again.
