Miniature Schnauzer becoming TOO attached to me

Question
I purchased a 1 1/5 yr old min schnauzer 6 weeks ago. Bauer is wonderful with me. I live alone and don't get company often. I think he is becoming TOO attached to me. Now, he is barking and wanting to snap when someone comes. I put him in his crate, but that's not really teaching him to stop the bad behavior. What is the best way to help re-socialize him?  His past owner was a veterinarian and he went to the clinic daily, so he knows how to get along with people. She sold him to me because he was snapping at her 2 yr old daughter. I thought it was maybe that a 2 yr old child and a 1 1/5 yr old dog were both too young at the same time and he may have gotten poked and pulled...maybe? Should I find a doggie-play group?

Answer
You need to get him into on-going obedience classes and practice "Nothing in Life is Free" with him. http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm  Have visitors/strangers make him sit in front of them, offer him treats, and then pet him. A doggie play group probably wouldn't hurt either; he needs exposure to everything/anything in a positive way.

He is snapping because no one probably "informed" him that was not acceptable behavior. Many schnauzers need a job to do; you might try getting him into Rally obedience or agility, or even just teach him some tricks.
