Question
QUESTION: Hi I have a Jack Russell who is nearly 2 years old and as far as i am aware she has never had a season. recently she has been showing weird behavior and only yesterday she started a fight with my other dog who is a male patterdale terrier, when i went to intervene she bit my hand twice knowing it was me that she was biting. Is it possible that she may be coming in to season as i have been told that Jack Russells can start their season at 2?
Many Thanks
Lucy

ANSWER: Yes; Lucy,
She could be coming into heat...that is always an indicator, as the term "Bitch" is just that!

Be careful, as she will be more aggressive, and she will need to be separated from others if she becomes like this all the time!
Let me know how you go...
Best regards,
Melissa

QUESTION: Hi Melissa

Thanks for your response it has put my mind at rest i thought she might have been turning in to a horror which really upset me.

If (lets hope) she is coming in to heat how long will this behavior last? It won't be permanent will it?

Sorry to pester you I'm just really worried and want my cuddly happy little girl back.
Thanks
Lucy

Answer
Hello Lucy;
This should last no more than about 30 days from the time she is changing into her heat season, till she finishes about 21 days.

We don't ever know what the "hormones" can do to a dog...like people, but, chances are that she will be fine...more than fine.

So, not to worry right now at all.

Relax, and let nature take its course.

I will be around for further help.
Our new book comes out in a week or so, if you need more reference tools, I would recommend it:
