Our year and ahalf mixed breed...

Question
Our year and ahalf mixed breed has taken to soiling at night if allowed to
roam the house.  Her favorite spot on these occasions has been the living
room.  We just put in a new rug so I hoped all previous odors would be
gone.  She has since soiled it 3 times, fortunately without staining, but
other than crating her at night, what do you recommend?  I only hesitate
the crating because she is crated for 8 hrs during the day.

If it's at all possible, I would gate the living room area off at night.  Baby gates are available in a wide variety of widths.  You might also want to consider locking her in your room.  

Is she soiling in the same areas as before?  If so, then the scent is still there.  Dogs can smell 10X better than we can and it doesn't take much for them to pick up on that.  Unfortunately, the only other option you would have is to kennel her up at night and give her extra attention during the times she is out.
