Question
I have a two yr. old male yorkie who mated with my sisters  female yorkie which lives in our home as well.  They produced only one puppy, and my yorkie, named Bruiser, refuses to acknowledge the puppies existence.  It seems to be afraid of it which is wierd because Bruiser is otherwise a social dog.  It won't look the puppy in the eye and if possible, will leave the area when the puppy is around.  The puppy is a week and a 1/2 old.  We have tried to put the two together but Bruiser wants nothing to do with it.  I don't know why his behavior is so different when the puppy is around.?.?

Answer
The puppy has a natural scent to it which is supposed to protect it. He "Stinks". The reason the male dog does walk away is, because he's avoiding having his Butt kicked by the female dog. The male should be ok to go near the pup around 5-6 weeks of age.. good luck
