dog humping new female puppy

Hi i have a 5yr old male bull terrier and recently bought a female pup (bull terrier also)  8wks old. The problem is the male dog will not stop humping the pup from morning till night if i let him. How do i stop him? will he stop himself once he is used to the pup?  I have started shouting and throwing a very small amount of cold water on the male and this stops him for a few moments but as soon as my acks turned he`s at it again. I feel sorry for the pup as the male is a very big bull terrier. Help please!!!

If he isn't neutered, doing so will be a big help.  it could also be a leadership problem.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
