allergy

i have a year old male boxer, he gets swelled spots on his back and he feels itchy... i feed him chicken, dry food, pasteurised milk and boiled eggs. my vet said that its food allergy.. can u help me out... he's been eating this when he was about 5 months old...

His allergies may be food allergies or they may be environmental (or both). The only way to know for sure what is bothering him is to have allergy-testing done on him.

If your vet thinks it is a food allergy, he should have put the dog on a restricted diet of just one simple protein and one carbohydrate (ie. duck and potato) that the dog has never had before. After a few weeks, the dog is put back on his original diet to see if the original symptoms reoccur. If the dog reacts, he goes back on the restricted diet for a few weeks, and then new ingredients (ie. chicken) are added slowly one at a time to try to determine the source(s) of the allergy.
