Question
My pit bull just had puppies about 5 weeks ago we started to wean the puppies late last week.  Just yesterday she start throw up and tonight she has a fever of 103.0 is this normal with the weaning process.  Or could this be something that I do need to be worried about she also seems very depressed.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Brandy-

No, this is not normal at all, and could be indicitave of pyometra. (Among other things, vomiting, depression and fever could be many different ailments, but because of her recent breeding/whelping, my mind automatically jumps to pyo). If you are are not seeing any discharge from her vulva, but she DOES have pyo, its probably closed pyo, which is the worst kind. Either way, she needs to get to a vet immediatly. A vet can properly diagnose the problem, and if it IS pyo she needs an emergancy surgery to save her life. I hope she feels better soon- please call the vet ASAP!
