Adopted German Shepherd in Fear

Question
Nine days ago, we adopted a 1 yr old German Shepherd from a shelter. She is long and thin; very sweet. She was doing very well for the first few days. She seemed happy and was getting along very well. We're not sure what set her off, but suddenly she is very afraid in our home. She runs into the bathroom whenever she can and hides. Seems very nervous. When we take her out for a walk, a drive, or over to my brother's house to play with their dogs, she seems much more relaxed. Back at our house, she goes into fear-mode; darting all around, tail between legs.

I brought home a crate yesterday. She went right in and stays there. I plan to take her out for walks twice a day. I do not coddle her when she's afraid, but I do reward her when we're in the backyard and she comes to me.

I'm wondering if it's good to let her stay in the crate as long as she wants to (the door is open). I'm thinking that I should stay calm and confident and patient. Take her for walks and drives. Does that sound right to you?

I thank you so much for your attention.

Answer
I think with a dog like this,as far as being in the house,it's better for her to explore on her own 'forcing' her might actually make her worse, some dogs it takes a 4-6 weeks to settle in

Now,on the other hand it is good that you are taking her on walks ect, that you need to keep on doing that will help as well

Mostly,it's just a matter of waiting-they come out on there own
