Lab mix

Question
I have a lab hound mix approximately 3 years old.  He took up at my Dad's farm when he was about a year old.  He's very frisky and too much for my senior Dad to handle so we took him.  He has not been neutered.  He is quite a jumper, in fact we named him Bouncer.  He house trained himself, with only an occasional accident.  He's a very good boy except for the jumping. When outside, he is on a run.  When I leash him to take him to the run, he jumps constantly on the leash.  If you try to leash walk him, he pulls and gets so low to the ground that even my husband can't control him.  He weighs just over 75 pounds.  My husband is concerned that if he's neutered, it will change his personality.  I don't want to break his spirit, which is what attracted us to him in the first place, but I would like to be able to take him for a walk.  He knows most of the basic commands, but when outside there are too many distractions for him to pay any attention.  My vet suggested a halti but I'd like to be able to train him on a regular leash.  We recently adopted another lab mix and they get along really well.  The new dog is allowed to run in the yard without a leash because he will stay in the yard.  Bouncer barks at him constantly when they are outside, I assume out of jealousy because he isn't allowed off the run or leash.  I love my boys very much and would like to be able to give Bouncer a little more freedom.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
There's two ways you can correct this-one is when he is on lead and is jumping like this 'snap' the leash done and and say 'off' and this method works the best. But the other one is to stand there and keep your arms crossed, and keep turning away from him and ignore him without saying anything, and as soon as he stops, praise him-this is good for dogs that are jumping up for attention.

And as for neuturing,it doesn't change there personality-every dog I have known that has had it done is the same, except if they are agressive that calms it down. But with your dog you probably won't notice anything
