Discoloration of hair

Question
I have a mini schnauzer and he has discoloration around his mouth due to drooling. The discoloration, I understand is common with this breed and is caused by some type of chemical reaction in the mouth. Is there a treatment for this reaction and a way of removing the stain? In "Bandits" case the color is brown. He has not always had this problem. It does not seem to bother him but he has been licking his leg and paws which also stain. Any help is greatly appreciated. He is six years old. Thanks, Les

Answer
Hello Les;
Thank you for asking. I would not give your dog any additive to its food, as the Saliva is why he is staining his coat, and to change his "PH" internally, just for the sake of Cosmetics, I don't agree with that.

I would use a "Shampoo" very readily available that has formulas that will help remove staining of the coat;
Petsmart, Petco, Walmart even carries products...any Pet supply outlet will have it.

This way, for the time you want him to look good, just pop him in the Tub, and go to work.
Read the directions, as there are different varieties for different problems.

But, I would just Love him, it is not hurting him in any way, and you can keep him healthy with a good diet of high fiber, and 24% protein, 14% fat, that will keep him in good shape for more years to come!

Let me know if I can assist you further, I am most happy to help!
