small black marks

We have a 10 year old miniature Schnauzer and recently noticed he was scratching his neck a lot. The scratching has cleared fur from his skin (1/8" by 3/8") and there appear to be two black dots side by side on his neck.
Would this be a bite of some description (spider) or otherwise? What shoud we be looking for?

Hi Larry,

Scratching so severe as to cause hair loss is something your veterinarian should examine. Besides treating whatever has caused the hair loss, if your dog has been scratching long enough he may have a secondary skin infection which might also require treatment.
