Question
My Dog is Pregent, But I dont know what kind of dog got to her. I also dont know when she is due...how can you tell? Plus she is making some wired sound like crying I think..??..But What does that mean? Not only that the puppies are moving lower to her area. So does that mean she is very close to having her puppies?

Answer

Hi Jessica,

If it's early enough in the pregnancy, a vet can terminate it. There's no reason to have your dog carry a litter to term, and bring another unwanted litter of puppies into the world. At the same time, your dog would be spayed, so this would be the last time you would have to worry about your dog being pregnant, and heat cycles.

If your dog is older than six years old, you should have her examined by a vet, even if you're planning on having this litter. Dogs older than six or seven shouldn't be bred, but dogs don't have a period of menopause, so they run the risk of getting pregnant during their entire life. If this is the case, your dog should be spayed.

A dog's pregnancy lasts for approximately 63 days, or nine weeks. That's an average, it can be a little longer, or shorter. If you know the day your dog was bred, you can use the following dog pregnancy calculator to estimate her due date: http://www.askabreeder.com/Dog+Gestation+Calculator

If you plan on letting your dog go through with this pregnancy, you should read up on the special dietary needs of a pregnant dog, as well as what to expect during the birth process. Not knowing about giving birth may literally be a matter of life and death, for both your dog and her puppies.
