Pup wants to constantly go out now!

Question
QUESTION: Hello :)
I hope you can help my husband and I with this issue we seem to have with our 1 year old Golden Ret. She will bark or whine to go out - thats great - but lately she is doing it constantly - and its all because we have snow on the deck, the ground...etc. She loves it!! She wants to eat it!! She will go out there and dig in the snow, grab chunks of snow and ice and munch away. I don't have time (or desire) to let her out 3-5 times before I go to work. Any suggestions? I would be more than willing to let her bark, but my son works nights so he is sleeping and I dont want the dog to wake him. We have tried to distract her with toys, treats...to no avail. Help would sure be appreciated!!

ANSWER: Hi Maryanne,
Two solutions:
One is to let her stay out until you go to work.   She will get that out of her system for the day.
Two is to make sure she has done what she is supposed to do outside and then tell her sharply "NO"  and bring her over to her bed and tell her to  "down" stay.  Repeat until she gets this.

QUESTION: Thanks for the response :) The problem w/the first suggestion is that if left out too long, "Hannah" will begin to dig and dig and dig! I do bring her inside as soon as she is done with her "business", but I have a very small window between the time she gets up 5AM and when I leave for work 7AM. She is in a crate all night (9PM) and I would like her to  have some freedom before I go to work (she is then in a crate from 7AM-1PM). ANy other suggestions?

Answer
If she is just playing in the snow...let her....do you walk her at all?  She sounds like she needs some new places to see and some exercise...
Also try getting one of those food toys where she has to get the food out and put that outside with her....   Also hide biscuits and chewie things in different places outside so she has to hunt for them without digging.....She is a retriever, not an earth dog.   Set up some things she can retrieve so she feels good about herself and is doing what she is supposed to do.   Have you ever thought of doing agility with her...It is sooooo much fun and you don't have to be any certain age to do it. (my teacher is 65 with a broken knee)  ha!  It will create a challenge and a new interest for her...She may be bored, the more intelligent they are the quicker they get bored.
Just some suggestions.  Then when you say "NO"  she can control some of her energy for you.
