Question
My name is Shelly and I am a volunteer with an animal rescue group in Shelburne County. Many of the 'hunting' dogs here are at the end of a chain and owners thoughts are that they make a better hunting dog. It's just making us SO SAD to pass by them day in and day out, chained...
We'd like to create awareness about this and you had an excellent article about 12 week old beagle pups and making them a part of your family. We'd like to quote an 'expert' on the matter to put more credibility to the article...and to try and help these poor dogs get out of the cold and a part of the family. By-laws need to change as well. We should have in this day and age limited tethering by-laws. The NS SPCA is telling me that it will be a long time coming...these dogs can't wait. We'd like to tackle it at the local level. Maybe that would work...to have Animal Control go on property and talk to them about tying out their dog 24/7. We are not an SPCA so we have no rights to go on property...it is just so frustrating.
So my question is can we quote you in an article? Can you provide us with a quote or two that will help these poor souls? And if you have any ideas on how to get this point across, to let us know. Some nights I can't sleep, thinking that they are left outside on cold winter nights because some owner thinks it will make him a better hunting dog. Help. www.petprojects.ca

Answer
I think you should be able to quote the quote as long as you provide the source and give credit. One good way to get the word out that a lot of people are doing is to post a video on youtube as millions of people go on there daily and people are bound to find the video and post it on other sites-also putting up a facebook page is another great way to get the word out as well. I found a website that is loaded on this topic: http://www.unchainyourdog.org/ It points why chaining is bad,and that it can cause aggression,so there's many quotes in there you can use

I must say a special thanks to you for trying to free these dogs from a life of a living hell-some dogs have only known life on a chain
