dod on heat

My dog is about 10 months of ages her vulva is really huge and she is continually cleaning it, does this mean she is on heat and how long will she be like this for. I notice she does not like to be picked up from the bottom as i normally do she turns away. I have not seen any signs of blood

Well it could be that she is in heat, but it if you don't see any blood, it could be a urinary track infection.   Is she crate trained?  Sometimes if they have to hold the urine too long they will get an infection.
If you don't see blood by tomorrow, take her to the vet,,, see if you can catch some urine in a very clean container and bring it in to the vet with you.
