Question
I HAVE A 1 1/2 YR OLD FEMALE YORKIE, I GOT A 1 YR OLD MALE YORKIE AND EVEN THOUGH HE IS HOUSE TRAINED HE IS "MARKING HIS TERRITORY" ALL OVER MY HOUSE...HOW CAN I STOP HIM?

Answer
Laurie,

As far as I know there is no way to stop his behavior.  Some people will tell you that getting them neutered will stop it but that has not been the case for me.  My son has a male Yorkie and he is staying with us for a few months.  His male has been spayed and is about two years old.  He still marks his territory and he still rides my female whenever he gets the chance.

Because of this behavior I have never kept a male in the household.  I always found a friend who wanted a yorkie to keep my studs for me so that I did not have to deal with the humping and urinating.  What I am doing right now is keeping a diaper on the male so that he cannot mark his territory all over my house.  It is a hassle but we really don't have any other options.

You can purchase a reusable diaper from any pet store.  They have pads that you can put in them (like sanitary napkins) and then they can be changed out as needed.  I personally have been buying newborn baby diapers when I can find them cheap.  It isn't quite as neat looking as the doggie ones but they hold better and are less expensive.  What you do is wrap the diaper around the middle of the dog and make sure his pee pee is inside the diaper.  It will bunch up but that is ok because it gets caught on his pee pee and so you are covered.

I wish I had a better solution but unfortunately a dogs instincts are stronger than their ability to obey and not mark their territory.  This is a behavior that cannot be changed.
