Breeding my almost 2 year old male

Question
My Male yorkie will be 2 this June.  I was asked by a friend who has a female yorkie if I would like to breed him.  He is 4-5lbs, and the female is 5-6.  Is he small enough to be breed with a 6lb female?  Will breeding him cause him to act differently?  Will he mark his territory more, will he hump more?  There have been a few times I have caught him humping something, and (this may be offensive to some, but it is completely serious) his penis has gotten stuck out, and I actually had to help him to get it back in. Is this going to be an issue when he is with a female?  Please any advise you could give would be helpful.  I don't want to put my dog in any distress, or change his mannerism in any way.  Thank you

Answer
Bo,

The standard ratio for male and female breeding pairs is 2.5 to 3 pound male to a 5 pound female.  The rule is that the male must always be smaller than the female.  If you breed with the female in question the puppies will be 5 pounds or larger.  Most people want small puppies (3 to 4 pounds full grown)so you would not get as much money for them.  I see no problem breeding them because he is smaller than she is and should have a low chance of complications.  I do not think breeding him will change his personality or make him mark his territory or hump anymore than he does right now.  Of course if the female is in your home when she is in heat he would mark his territory more.

What you described about his penis is a common occurrence when you are breeding.  The penis detracts from the sheath that protects it and sometimes due to dryness it will not detract.  It is essential that you intercede and detract it for him.  It is not gross at all, in fact when breeding there are worse things you have to deal with.

My one concern is that he is being allowed to hump to the point of his penis coming out and getting stuck.  A stud should never be allowed to hump at random.  It is the fastest way to ruin them.  What happens is that they become unable to breed because they get on and hump for a few seconds and stop.  This is because that is the behavior they learned by being allowed to hump randomly and it now satisfy them.  This leads to them not being able to complete the task and they are ruined as a stud because the behavior usually cannot be turned around.

That being said, I don't think you should worry about breeding him.  Give it a shot and see what he does.
