Question
i think my 10 wk old yorkie had a seizure although no bowel loss or appetite loss only "woozieness" after some twitching and lethargy. Is this common for this breed?

Answer
Hi Jay,
It could be an epileptic seizure, BUT ALSO yorkies and other toy breeds are very prone to hypoglycemia, or a 'crash' in their sugar levels  'low blood sugar' that can send them into seizures or death. It's common in yorkies and can be avoided by watching them to be sure they eat at every single meal.
Hypoglycemia - Signs of an attack are a weakness, confusion, wobbly gait, frothing or drooling from the mouth, sometimes even a seizure and drain of blood from the head.  A check of the gums will show them to be pale, almost a grayish white in color rather than a healthy bright pink.  The puppy can go into shock and, if not cared for properly and promptly, may even die.

When was the last time you SAW and KNEW your puppy had eaten? You must watch this little baby, to make sure he eats at least 4-5 times a day. Toy breed puppies need high protein/highcarbohydrate diets.
This is serious business, be sure your puppy eats and eats well. If this happens again and you KNOW that puppy's belly is full of food, then you need to get him to a vet asap to see what is going on.
In the meantime, if it should happen again, put a big pinch of sugar on his tongue when it happens and get him to a vet right then for tests.
