Top of the head hair is thin

Question
Why is my 10 week old yorkie puppy hair thin at the top? She can hardly get a bow at the top of her head. The breeder says she will only weigh 3 to 4 pounds grown.

Answer
Wendy,

At 10 weeks old I would not be concerned yet.  Yorkies usually do not have their full coat or the actual colors they will be until they are at least six months old.  She has plenty of time to have her hair grow in longer and thicker.  With that in mind you should know that not all Yorkies have the same hair.  I have had Yorkies with coarse hair as well as silky hair.  The different kinds range from coarse, silky, thick, thin, oily, dry etc.  The best indicator of how your Yorkies hair will be is by the parents.  If the parents have thick hair then the puppy will probably have thick hair.  The size of the Yorkie has no bearing on the hair so the fact that she is going to be so small should not be a factor.  I hope this helps!

Sincerely,

Melinda
