Question
i recently got a male yorkie puppy that is three months old. i think he is too big for three months old. he weighs  four and a half pounds. i am afraid he will get to big for what i want.  about how big do you think he will get?    thank you

Answer
Jane,

At three months of age your puppy should weigh a pound at most.  There is no way to tell how much he will weigh when full grown but he is definately not going to be a small Yorkie.  If I had to guess I would say he will probably weigh between ten and fifteen pounds full grown.

The parents are usually a good indication of how big the puppies will be.  When you purchased him did you see both parents?  There are some Yorkies out there that weigh as much as 25 pounds so your concern is justified.  If you were expecting to be able to use him as a stud I think you can rule that out at this point.  When breeding you must always breed a female with a male that is much smaller than her and since your male is already four and a half pounds it would be unlikely that anyone would want to use him as a stud when he is full grown.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you love him already and cannot return him, then you will probably have to give up on the idea of using him for a stud.
