Yorkie in Heat, not eating well

Question
Hello,
Lola, my 14th month old yorkie, is on her 8th day in heat. Her first week went smoothly...heavier bleeding. Now she is light bleeding while still swollen. She has been sleeping a lot which I hear is normal. THE PROBLEM is that this morning she vomitted watery yellow. I figured it was because she was hungry. We kept an extra eye on her and noticed she hardly ate today. IS THIS NORMAL? She even seems a little skinny.

Pleeeeeeeeease help!!!

Thanks,
Monica

Answer
Monica,

I don't think you have anything to worry about.  Over the years I have had some Yorkies that would vomit yellow bile.  The vet was never really able to tell me why but occasionally they would do it for a few days and then it would go away.  As far as her eating, if she isn't feeling well (hence the vomiting) she is not going to eat as much as she normally would.  I would only worry if she stops eating and drinking all together.  Give her a few days to feel better and I think you will find the vomiting will stop.  She might throw up a few times a day but if it becomes more than 3 or 4 times then you may need to make a trip to the vet.  I hope this puts your mind at rest but if not then you may want to consider calling or taking her to your vet just to be on the safe side.

Sincerely,

Melinda
