Question
Hello.

Thank you for taking the time to review my question.

I foster Jack Russells.  I have a wonderful seven year old male now that has only one issue.  He poops against things.  The first day it was the side of the dishwasher and couch. I crated him when he could not be supervised after those two instances.

When I take him out of his crate I put him outside immediately.  He still poops against the side of the house, potted flowers, the porch. He does not like to go into the grass for some reason.

I stood outside the other night for 40 minutes and gave him a harsh "Naaah!" when he pushed his rear against the side of the house. He simply thinks I do not want him to poop.  I have picked him up and taken him out to the grass only to have him run and wait by the front door leaving me out in the grass.  After 40 minutes of standing in the cold, I gave in and let him poop against the side of the porch, at least it was the lawn side.

I simply do not have a few hours a day to stand out in the cold with this guy.  Do I need to tie him outside in the middle of the lawn until he goes?

I have had many dogs through my home, but none with anything remotely close to this habit.  All I can figure is that someone left him in his crate for too long and he learned to poop out the wires.

Have you heard of such a thing?  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your time and volunteering to help others.

Best Regards,
Christi

Answer
Hi Christi,
I had a Standard Poodle that did that samething.  Fortunately for me he did it against the fence line so that wasn't a problem.
Basically you answered your own question.  I would tether him in the middle of the yard till he does his job.  I would continue doing this till he totally gets a clue.  If he doesn't do one right away you could put some poop from your other dog for inspiration.

 Hope this helps......
If you have any other questions don't hesitate.
Good Luck,
Tammy
