female white westland terrier in her first heat

Hello, I have two seven month old westies a male and female they are not brother and sister. the vet said she would'nt go into heat till she was about ten months and two months old he said. Well nine days ago she did. my male could care less thank God... she is acting a little frisky today. how long is there first heat last and should I crate her. I would appreciate your advice.

YES CRATE......A heat lasts approx. 28 days.  DO not trust the male isn't interested one day but then is turned on when you turn your back.

You can read on the internet about female reproduction in dogs.  Keep them apart if you don't want babies.
