Question
I just want to know what is the quickest and easiest way to build muscle mass and also gain weight for my 4 month old pit bull. I walk her every day at night for about 30-45 mns. I also put a weight around her neck.(Is that o-k for a dog to wear while exercising?) What type of dog food do you recommend? I use eukanuba for puppies. Will you please write me back so my dog can be healthy and strong like I see the competition dogs in the weight pulling contest?

Answer
Hello there,

My first question to you is; what are your intentions for your pup. Are you going to have him weight pull, or show him?

As for you question i have answers. My friend tried this on his pit female, and she went from about 55pounds to a 70pound pup in about a month. However I would like to let you know that the weight around the neck, will thicken your pup up. However you have to be careful not to put to much weight around the pups neck. right now it should be no more than a pound. But as your dog grows you can increase it. Where at 6-7months its about 2pounds.

However i would like to add that your dog will not finish growing until he is about 2years old. Most people dont realize that. At first till around a year of age the dog will grow more vertically and very little horizontally. But after that year-2years you will realize that your dog is going to bulk up. So there is no need to influence his growth cycle, but you could provide some good food etc to help it along. Also that dog i told you that bulked out in about a month, had almost no stamina, it was just a big dog and it goes for walks etc but will never run to much and will just bail. However my good friends pit, which has has nothing added to her diet can run forever, like i really mean that. Shes  a better retriever than most retrievers and can clear 5feet at 7months of age. And my friend has put nothing in her diet.

But finally to answer your question. To bulk them up there is one formula and that is Innova Evo, this food has 42% protein gauranteed and is a human brand food(holistic). However this much protein can mess up a dogs system so you might want to mix the food with another food, i have been recommended to use eukanuba, however i dont use iams or its products because they do testing on their animals. I dont know if that effects you or not. Also lev the weight around the necks. And walk it only to the  point where you think your dog can handle it. You can also keep that weight on, as long as you are able to answer peoples questions about the weight. But when the pup rests you should remove the weight. And lastly because innova is just so expensive, you can also get protein shakes for dogs. These are expensive too, but gaurantee size. So you can try those but i am telling you that your dog will gain size as it grows, as long as the parents were a good thick size. I hope that helps
