Question
I recently had my pit bull stolen from me. I called the police and filed a report. They found her 6 weeks later. I can tell she was not abused and is still full of love but she had worms really bad and was very skinny. She was also losing alot of hair and her skin was flaking. I would like to find a d og food that will put her weight back on and fix her skin condition. Can you make a good suggestion? We have tried puppy food and table scraps but I dont want her to get to used to table food(She pulled a whole pizza off the table yesterday) She is my 5 year olds best friend and we want to keep her around for a long time.

Answer
Wow, that is so awesome that you got her back.  For her skin, you can give her a fish oil capsule every day, they are good for you to take, too, you can find at any drugstore or health store.  She also might need a medicated bath.

There are a lot of high-quality dog foods.  Most of them are not sold in grocery stores, but in smaller shops, feed stores, and pet boutiques.  Even PetCo/Petsmart has some good ones.  Remember the worst brands of food are also the cheapest like Alpo, Kibbles N Bits, Gravy train, Purina Dog Chow, they are mostly corn and left-over nasty animal parts.

Here are some brands to look for:  Orijen (grain-free, high protein, expensive but high quality), Innova EVO, Merrick, Fromm, Nature's Variety, Natural Balance (at Petco), Blue Buffalo (at Petsmart), Solid Gold, Pinnacle, Castor and Pollox, Newmans Own, Taste of the Wild

Look for no by-products, meat as first ingredient, no wheat or corn, and I prefer the grain-free foods that are higher in protein.
