Question
I just purchased a red red nose pitbull male named Neptune born sometime in august(previous owner told me)and I was wondering if there is anyway I could tell his bloodline? I acquired him from a BYB(back yard breeder) who didn't know what the hell he was doing! Im no expert but I been reading up on the breed and how to train them properly just hope im doing a good job of it??? I have been around the breed as a young man but never stopped to get even at least the basics besides feeding, walking and spanking(which I know now NEVER to spank a dog!) sorry :( I was also inquiring information on the AKC UKC registration. Being he is from a BYB can I register him and enter competions such as agility, weight pulling, etc? And does all this affect the value of my dog to the consumer or general publics eye? I mean in my eyes he is worth a million bucks! I have a lot of questions but I rather just ask them 1 at a time I don't want you to get annoyed by me haha.

Sorry one last for this series of questions...
Colby, jeep, watchdog are for pitbull and gotta and razor edge is for bullys if im correct what is the difference between a bully and pitbull and who made these bloodlines? Could anyone just make one up?

Answer
Even BYBs or bad breeders do have registered (or registerable) dogs, it is not a mark of quality.  A pedigree (AKA "Papers") is a FAMILY TREE of the dog, and nothing more.  It may affect the sale value of a dog, but it doesn't matter- a dog is a dog!!

"Red nose" simply refers to the coloring of the dog, which also means nothing.  Pit Bulls come in EVERY color, none are rare, none are better than others.  A nose is either black (blue is a dilute of black) or red.  So I can guess your dog is probably brindle, or fawn, or white and brown.

No, you cannot register your dogs, unless BOTH of the parents are registered already, which they are not.  There are 3 registries you mention: AKC, UKC, and also ADBA- the AKC does not register Pit Bulls.

I highly recommend you two attend a local dog training school, classes, or hire a private trainer to help you with your obedience, every dog needs training and it's best to have a professional help, or a class where he can meet other pups safely.  You can still do activities with your dog like agility or weight pull, once hes grown.

Colby is a line of APBTs from fighing lines, Razors Edge is called American Bully because they are mixed.  They are bloodlines created by kennels and breeders, to feature a certain type, or certain traits.  I will show you the difference below.

To see the UKC standard of Pit Bulls, what they are supposed to look like according to that kennel club, look here: http://www.apbtconformation.com/ukcstandard.htm  Look at that dogs type, and read the description, it's not overly muscle bound and is not too big, I prefer this type and I like the Colby lines

Now look at a Razors Edge dog: http://www.razorsedgeinc.com/info.html  It's different.  Bigger head, larger, wishbone stance, possibly less agile though.  They are still registered as APBTs though.  As you can see from his own website, he calls them American Bully, not APBT, so why dogs with these bloodlines are still allowed to register with UKC I have no idea.

Keep in mind Pit Bulls are overpopulated and most of them are from mixed bloodlines, they may not have a specific type, you'll notice they all look different!  It keeps it interesting.  I would not suggest breeding your dog, unfortunately, tons of them are put down in shelters because of the overpopulation and the undeserved breed reputation- some shelters won't even adopt them out, for fear of dog fighters getting them, and entire litters of puppies are routinely euthanized, lack of good homes.  You'll notice these BYBs will end up giving their Pit puppies away free or very cheap because there's a lack of homes.
