Feeding and chewing.

Question
I have a 6 week old pit bull.  This is my first time in raising a pit bull and I am not sure on how much to feed her.  I put some food down twice a day and after both of the feedings she still acts like she is starving.  I give her about 3/4 of a cup of dry dog food twice a day.  Also, When I look at her tummy it looks like it is bulging out.  Someone told me that it was just puppy fat and they will eventually lose it.  I am concerned because it looks as though she has stuffed herself too much.  Is this normal or am I just not feeding too much or not enough?

Also, she is now starting to actually play and chew on things.  When she gets into her playful mood she has a habit of chewing on things biting us hard when she wants to play with us.  I know that she might not know her own strength so we try not to punish her every time she does this.  We spank her on the nose very lightly and tell her no, but she snaps back at us like she is mad or is still wanting to play (unsure of which one).  How can we stop this from happening and should we be punishing her when she is only wanting to play?

Answer
Hi there,

as a puppy she is growing rapidly so shes gonna eat a lot. However, you must make sure that you are not overfeeding her. I recommend that you follow the guidlines on the food bag and that should help. Also you are supposed to feed a young pup like that about 4-5 times a day. Not 2 big meals.  You also dont want to leave the food there after the pup is done or fill it up again as that creates bad habits. What you want to do is put the food down, and as they pup finishes you take the bowl away. Give the pup about 20min to eat. Than do that everytime. You do not want to leave food their as when the pup gets older it will develop bad habits and may only eat at a certain part of the day adn thus not have enough energy during other times. It is best that they understand that they must eat when given food, or the food will be taken away. That also means consistency in their stools etc.

So basically follow the guidelines that are on the bag and go from there. Depending on ur pup you can add a little mroe or decrease. See how the pup eats.

Anyways good luck
