Red nose pitbull skin problem

Question
I have recently got a full grown red nose pitbull he is about a year and a half old and for the first week or so everything was fine then one morning I went and let him out of his crate and he was all welted up it looked like I had tied him down in an ant bed. He is really not bad about scratching he does rub on the furniture but doesn't really scratch... Most days the welts aren't to bad and tend to fade through out the day, and some days he is just covered in them. I have watched what he eats, when he has bathes, and where he goes out side and nothing ever seems to be the same. Is their a poosibillity that my dog can be allergic to my four cats??? The dogs crate is in the cats room... Could it be a depression thing??? The welts are somtimes worst when he sleeps in the crate verses not in the crate, and if I am gone longer than usual during the day they tend to be worse??? I have heard that pitbulls have sensitive skin is this something that he and I are going to just have to live with or is their a solution????
Please help

Answer
What is in your dog's crate? Does he have a bed? If he does, what is it made of and what do you wash it with? Have you ever sprayed anything on it? Do the cats get in his crate? If he doesn't have a bed, what is he laying on when he is in his crate? It would be easier for me to help you if you could answer those questions for me.
