14 Yr Old Lab: Hind Leg Problems

20 9:38:14

Question
Hi, as of lately, my lab has had problems using his hind legs. After a long but slow walk, he seems to almost lose all ability to walk with his hind legs. His front legs are fine and he almost gets to the point where he's dragging his rear legs. He doesn't appear to be in pain, but I can't imagine it being comfortable. If he sleeps for several hours, his hind legs will work fine for the most part. I guess prolonged exercise or movement is causing his rear legs to give way. What should I do? He is getting old. Thanks.

Answer
It may or may not be pain.  Try giving him an aspirin tablet, buffered aspirin is best, not any of the newer stuff.  If it seems to help, the vets have better stuff.  They also have other things besides pain killer that might help.  He could have another good year or 2.
