Puppy Play at Puppy Daycare.

Question

Jesse
Dear Labman,  Our beautiful 10 week old female black lab, Jesse, spends her day at with my mother in law, as both my wife and I work.  My mother in law recently had to put two older labs to sleep and now only has a three year old Golden retriever at home.  Puppy day care had been going well, the three year old would correct Jesse with a growl when play got excessive, but was tolerating the little monster and playing as well.   Jesse uses a crate well at both houses and has an ample suppy of toys.

Recently my mother in law picked up their new 8 week old male golden retriever puppy.  Jesse seems to view her new puppy playmate as a big chew toy.  Constantly wanting to jump on, bite, and chew this younger male golden retriever, often more vigorously than normal puppy antics.  Mornings seem to be the worst with all the pent up energy, and things moderate somewhat in the afternoon.

Do you have any suggestions on how best to curb Jesse's reaction to her smaller puppy playmate?  Techniques that may work better than others?

Thanks for you input and all the good advice you give to dog owners.

Answer
How is the Golden taking it?  I think Labs are more ruffians than Goldens, but most of them love rough play too.  They need to be supervised and the older one needs a timeout if the younger one starts trying to get away.

I meet monthly with other people raising service dog puppies, and many times we will turn up to a dozen puppies of different ages and breeds loose for supervised play.  We also sit puppies back and forth all the time.  We have had windows broken, but never a puppy injured.  If anything, Shepherds are worse than the Labs.
