Question
Does a female have to skip a heat cycle before she breeds again?  What are the reasons? I have a female Choc. lab, she only goes in heat about every 8 months. I want to breed her again, and her puppies are 8 months old from her previous litter. She is five years old.

Answer
They should but they don't have to.  Unfortunately it is not recommended for older bitches.  If she were 2 or 3, a back to back litter might be OK, but the older the bitch the more can go wrong.  I wouldn't risk it.

But then again, having to ask the question means you probably don't have a mentor.  I hope that the breeding pair have ALL clearances and have been proven through showing or performance events.
