Question

Scrumpy and her mad ea
I have a lovely JR, Scrumpy, who is 8 months old.  She is a very nice dog but will jump up to people and children with excitement(with children she can get to their faces).  I obviously don't want her to do this even though she means no harm.  She has been to classes but we don't seem to have knocked this on on the head.  Any ideas apart from firm 'no'.  It's hard as some people actively encourage it!

Answer
Hello Natasha,
Scrumpy is so adorable, I love her ears!
Jumping up on people is one of the most common "problems" we have with all dogs. They're just so loving! You've already been to classes but you didn't mention what technique they were trying to teach you/her. The best method I have found to work is as she jumps up, you turn your body completely around and ignore her. If she tries again, just turn your back on her. When she stops, that is when you bend down and give her some praise. If you have every single person she meets do this technique she will eventually get the idea that she is not getting any hellos by jumping up, but does get them when she is actually sitting down! Patience and repetition, patience and repetition. She's a jack, she'll catch on quickly!
Good luck with her, she's precious!
