Question
Hey Carol, I just adopted a 5 year old female jack russel terrier from a friend and it has been sneezing we took it to the vet and the vet said it had a upper respiratory infection. Anyhow we have been giving it medication and its still sneezing. She is eating when shes hungry and drinking when shes hungry should i be concerned, even though we have only had her for two weeks My family and I have grown attached. Also what sort of things should we look out for. We do walk her around our neighbor hood she does go and sniff the neighbors lawns. I was told she was house broken and she does go on wee wee pads but today she did take a crap on the lawn. How many times should i let her out. I usually let her out about 3-4 times a day in the back yard then we walk two miles around my block is this enough?

Thanks in advanced for your help
Ashish

Answer
Hi Ashish,
That was great of you to take the dog in, and I'm glad you had her checked out by the vet. The medication should take care of her URI and I bet she stops the sneezing pretty soon. If not, you should take her back to the vet as the medicine might not be strong enough or she may need a longer course. Taking her out 3-4 times a day in the yard is great and two miles is a good walk. You can increase the walk to twice a day if you want, they thrive on exercise. "House broken" means that she has been trained to pee/poop OUTSIDE, which is where you WANT her to go!! Those pads are OK in the house if you are stuck inside, but going on the lawn is a GOOD THING. That's where she is supposed to go. Just make sure you pick it up and dispose of it. It sounds like you have a great new best friend, keep up the great work!!
Take care
Carol
