Golden puppy peeing in crate

Question
Hi. Our golden puppy is 11 weeks old. She has been spending time in the crate since we got her at 8 weeks. She is doing well with house training and will stay without problem in the crate for two hours at a time. She has gone all night twice. She weighs almost 14 lbs. She is getting over a UTI having been on antibiotcs for about 7 days. She goes out to pee around 10 PM. In the morning she will be wet from pee but she will not have barked to go out. I have depression and a husband that travels. I really need uninterupted sleep at night to avoid problems. I would prefer cleaning her up (and crate) to getting up with her in the night. (My depression was triggered by this with my babies). My concern is that she will get into a habit of peeing and laying in it - that she will be ok with this and not stop doing it. My vet told me to wake her up after 4 hours to go out. This goes against what I feel inside and it also makes me worry about my mental health. What do you think? Our breeder told us that she should be sleeping through the night by now. HELP.

Answer
I agree with the breeder.  Perhaps once the UTI is completely cleared up, she will be able to stay dry.  I also think that getting up in the middle of the night for a week or 2 maybe worth while.  It may also help to take the water up about 7 PM, and to make sure she moves around enough on her last trip outside to stimulate the body to eliminate.

You can also put a grid in the crate to keep her up out of the urine when she does have an accident.  I find they work very well on the occasional accidents most puppies have.  Most of mine have had at least 1-2.  Skip the
bedding. At first it gets wet, and later it can be chewed into choking
hazards. A wire grid in the bottom will help keep the puppy up out of
accidents at first. They are available with the crates, but expensive and hard to find. A piece of closely spaced wire closet shelving from a home supply place is cheaper. I am now using a plastic vegetable bin with plenty of holes drilled in the bottom. It helps block off part of the crate for the smaller puppy.  Here is a link to a picture of my Holly with hers, http://www.photolocker.net/images/Labman/hollyhighanddry.jpg
