Can you get her fixed while she is heat?

The consensus is that it is less safe, and many vets refuse too.  With males, failing to get around to it at 6 months isn't so bad.  With a female, you can get stuck with them coming into heat.  Besides the mess and general flaky behavior, you need to expect creative and strenous efforts to get loose.  Once loose, in addition to the likelyhood of being bred, There is a chance of getting lost or killed in traffic.  

The mess can easily be contained with ''Seasonals''.  For a dog that will be spayed before her next heat cycle, you might buy a cheaper brand or make do with children's training pants.  the tail comes out the fly.
