Sick Golden Retriever

Question
I have just adopted an 11 month old Golden Retriever (in china) and have had her for about 3 weeks. She was not spayed when I adopted her, I was planning to do this the weekend after I got her but before I could do it she came into heat. She has been in heat now for just over 2 weeks and has been discharging for the whole time. Also during the last week she has been getting very sick and vomiting a lot, I took her to 2 different vets and all they seemed to do was take x-rays and tell me to go home and keep an eye on her. Needless to say, vet care here in China is very different than I am used to in Australia. Other problems she has had when I got her she had a bad itch and after reading a lot I realized it could be because of her diet so I changed this and now her itching seems to be better.

The main thing I am concerned about now is her vomiting, can this be due to her heat or should I be trying something to help her? She is very unhappy and very confused, what can I do to help her?

Thank you to anyone who can help,

Brodie

Answer
If you made a sudden change in diet before the vomiting started, that could be the problem.  If not, try this:
If a dog is having trouble keeping anything down or continuing diarrhea try this out of the manual I have from a large, knowledgeable dog guide school.

Bland recovery diet for dogs.

3 parts cooked rice, one part boiled hamburger or chicken, or cottage cheese. I think you can substitute boiled potatoes for the rice. Once in an emergency, we bought a plain baked potato from Wendy's.

This is meant for short time settling a dog's digestive tract. It is not the complete and balanced diet they need long term. I have seen it work.

I have never had a dog vomit when it was in season, but almost anything can happen.  The discharge and chances of accidental breeding should be ending soon.

I hope you are able to buy a decent commercial chow.  It isn't like here where every supermarket has chows that most dogs would thrive on.  Other diets are difficult to get right.  If you are forced to prepare her diet yourself, look at

If getting over being in heat and the bland diet don't stop the vomiting, I guess it is back to the vet.
