going to the door

Question
I have a 18 week old golden.  I got her when she was 11 weeks.  We crate train her and she caught on within 2 weeks to go potty outside :-)  She goes to the back door and scratches it, or barks to get our attention.  Everything is great!!  The problem is the past few weeks she will do this several times a day...even when she doesn't have to go potty.  My yard is not fully fenced in (yet), so we either leash her or walk out with her.  Sometimes she will make herself pee...just because....& others she will play with sticks & stuff.  She will come to us when we call, but it is still frustrating & time consuming.  I am scared not to respond to her, for fear she may go in the house.

I feel like we do take her out and play quite a bit.  I have 3 children who give her tons of attention :-)  My question is....is this something she will soon grow out of or that I will begin to learn her cues better?  Should I continue to take her out every time she goes to the door asking?

Answer
Ooooooooooh!  I am afraid for the time being, you will have to. yes, it is a pain.  Even with a fenced in yard, I wait until my puppies are enough bigger than a rabbit that I am sure a hawk won't try carry one off before leaving them out alone.

I call it the in and out game, and the owners always lose.  I would work at finishing up the fence and having it ready when she is big enough to go out alone.
