Question
my shepard is not quite a year old. he has developed some discipline issues. he now growls at my smaller dog, not allowing her to eat or partake in family bonding. how do we break these bad habbits. it is to the point that my older dog does not come out of her crate when he is inside and they argue over food he tries to eat his food as well as hers. we now feed them at different times in different rooms. this is difficult because the older dog was used to having access to her food all day and only eats  small amounts at a time. any reccomemdations?

Dogs should not have free access to foods, it should be fed either 3 times a day or 2 times a day or once.  It is healthier and this is the proper way I do it.  In hot summer months I divide it into two or three that is on one time a day.  No feeding on heated dogs nor gulping water either on heated dogs.

Feed them in seperate rooms for now.  The Shepherd has been left go to become the DOMINANT one and this is wrong.  I have puppies in homes that were raised the way I raised mine into great adults with cats, snakes, birds, etc.  A dog is only as good as the adults that raised it or trained it and your responsible to straighten this out.
Enter in an obedience class to learn how to train the dog together, they are fun and it teaches you as well.
buy the videos from the Monks of New Skete at www.dogsbestfriend.com, best people on earth that can correct a bad dog.
Stay in touch with them and learn how to.  You break bad habits u left develope by no firm action on your part now with either a shock collar at www.drsfostersmith.com or start to become a dogs mind and think like a dog and stop this behavior now.  Teach this dog the word NO firmly and loudly and lift his chin up and look into his eyes when he does wrong and tell him this is wrong stop it now, NO NO.!!!
A dog has to have a teacher and mentor they cannot train theirselves so do not blame this dog for getting in control because you left it happen.  Become the boss or Alpha by growling when he does wrong and loud.  Go ah ah ah ah ah ah loudly also.  Get the dogs attention when he does wrong and correct him immediately or get a shock collar and shock him once or twice and he will quit quickly with this.

Kind Regards
