Digging and chewing

I have a German Shepard x. He is 7 months old and a very loyal friend and gaurdian. But he likes to chew om the walls and digs into the wall. Just recently he hit the drywall he went so far. He also will dig to China when outside. Is he mad for being left alone? How do I fix this before it gets much worse?

Hi Angie,  I need a couple of questions answered before I can help as I need to get a history on him to get an idea of what is going on.  

1.  How old was he when you got him?
2.  Where did you get him from?
3.  If you are not the first owner, do you know his previous history, where he came from, how many previous homes etc.?
4.  How old was he when he started this behavior?
5.  Does he do this behavior when you are home, or when you are gone?
6.  If it is after you are gone, how long is the minimum before he starts the behavior?
7.  Is he neutered?
8.  Has he had any previous training?
