Liter Box Training

Question
Hi, I am curious to learn how to liter box train my 1 year old Pom. He is house broken for the most part but occasionally has accidents. Also I am looking for a solution on his chewing. He always destoys his beds and toys. I keep him gated in the kitchen when I am gone and in his crate at night. Any input that you have would be well appreciated. Thank you and hope to hear back from you soon.

Answer
Hi Cyndi,

Get a dog litter box, put newspaper in it or a puppy pad and find a good spot in your house to put it.  A corner in your kitchen would be good since you keep him there when you are gone.  When you think you dog has to go potty, put him in the box and tell him to go potty.  It will probably take several attempts before he gets the idea.  Praise him profusely when he goes and offer a treat periodically.

Does he destroy stuff only when you are gone?  If so, he may have separation anxiety.

Give him lots of things to chew on, like rawhide bones, nylabones, kong stuffed with cheese, etc.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
