Purchasing an English Bulldog

Question
My Husband and I are thinking of buying a Bulldog puppy. I would like to know if they are good around young children. We live in Naples Florida and would also like to know of any breeders you could recommend in our state.  Thank you, Diane

Answer
Bulldogs are excellent with children. However, they are rough as puppies the same as any other breed. They need to be taught how to interact with children. It's not something they come by naturally. Putting a new puppies and a 2 or 3 yr. old on the floor together isn't a great idea.  Supervision and monitored play will allow them to form a relationship that will ultimately make them best friends.

I make it a practice not to recommend breeders. What I can do is make some suggestions. Make sure you get a health guarantee, IN WRITING?  Ask for the name of the Veterinarian the person uses for their dogs. If they refuse to give you that information, please, keep looking.

Ask to see the parents dogs and see how they are kept.  You might even ask the vet you plan on using if he has a Bulldog breeder as a client. There's a huge Bulldog club in Florida. You can contact the Bulldog Club of America online and they will give you the names of reputable breeders. However, I caution you, even some of them can be questionable. Just do your homework and you your best judgment.

Good luck.
