Question
My name is tina,I despertly trying to find the right food for my 18 month old boxer, he eats some but is getting really thin. I was wondering if he should have vitamins or something. My vet says Boxers sometimes just stay thin. I hope there is some advice.  Thank You

Answer
Boxers don't just 'sometimes stay thin'.  Unfortunately, not every vet is schooled in every breed of dog and will toss out generic answers to satisfy their clients.

At 18 months old, your Boxer will be as tall as he is going to be but may still have some filling out to do.  I don't know what you consider 'really thin' but ideally the last 2 ribs should be visible.  If his hip bones and/or vertebrae are poking through, he is too thin.

If you are feeind a good quality, highly digestible food, supplements aren't a necessity.  Foods are scientifically balanced and adding vitamins/minerals w/out your vet's go ahead may be doing more harm than good.

In the US, some of the better quality foods include Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup Dog Food, California Natural and Solid Gold.  The general rule of thumb is if you can find it in the grocery store or discount store (Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart) it's not good quality.
